Naloxone is a life-saving medicine that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. This includes overdoses involving opioids such as heroin, methadone, morphine, buprenorphine and codeine.

Naloxone can work within 5 minutes of being given and can last between 20 and 40 minutes. Because its effects are temporary, it is essential that the person gets emergency medical help.
