Call 999 if:

Call 999 if you or your child has a headache that came on suddenly and is extremely painful, or a headache with:

  • problems speaking or remembering things
  • loss of vision, blurred vision or double vision
  • drowsiness or confusion
  • a seizure or fit
  • a very high temperature and symptoms of meningitis
  • weakness in the arms, legs or one side of the face

Call 999 after a head injury if the person has been knocked out and has not woken up, has a seizure, has clear fluid or blood coming from their ears or nose, has problems with walking, balance, speaking or vision, or has a head wound with something inside it or a dent to the head.

Do not drive yourself to A&E. Ask someone to drive you or call 999 and ask for an ambulance.
