Get urgent medical help if:

Call 999 if you or someone else has severe difficulty breathing, is unable to swallow saliva, has swelling of the lips, mouth, throat or tongue, or you think it is an emergency.

Contact your GP practice, dentist, pharmacy or NHS 111 Wales if symptoms are severe, getting worse, or you are worried.

A pharmacist may be able to help

A community pharmacist can give advice about many common mouth and throat problems. In Wales, cold sores, mouth ulcers and sore throat are covered by the NHS Wales Common Ailments Service.

For sore throat and tonsillitis, some pharmacies also offer a Sore Throat Test and Treat service, which can help check whether symptoms are more likely to be caused by a viral or bacterial infection.
