This is not for emergency dental treatment

The Dental Access Portal is for people who want to register their interest in routine NHS dental treatment in Wales.

Do not use the portal for emergency dental treatment. If you need urgent dental treatment, use NHS 111 Wales for advice.

Finding it difficult to access an NHS dentist?

The Dental Access Portal is a digital service from Digital Health and Care Wales, also known as DHCW. It helps people in Wales register their interest in receiving routine NHS dental treatment.

Register your interest in routine NHS dental care

The portal means you do not need to call multiple dental practices to try to find an NHS dentist. Health boards can use the system to understand demand and offer routine NHS dental appointments more fairly when places become available.

If you are already a patient at an NHS dental practice in Wales, contact that practice first for your routine dental care.

Key benefits

  • Register once: you do not need to call around multiple dental practices.
  • Track your application: you can get updates, edit your details and manage appointment offers.
  • Fairer access: health boards can manage demand and offer routine NHS dental appointments more fairly.
Who can apply?

You can use the Dental Access Portal if:

  • you are aged 16 or over, or you are applying as a parent or guardian for a child
  • you live at an address in Wales for more than 6 months of the year, or you are registered with a Welsh GP practice
  • you have not received routine NHS dental treatment in the last 4 years
How it works
  1. Apply online: you can apply for yourself or on behalf of someone else.
  2. Provide key information: you may need the applicant’s NHS number and date of birth.
  3. Use secure login: a one-time passcode may be sent to your phone or email.
  4. Stay updated: you can log in to track progress or respond to appointment offers.
Accessibility and support

The Dental Access Portal is run by Digital Health and Care Wales. DHCW says the portal is designed so users can change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings, zoom in up to 400%, and navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.

If you need help using the system or are having an issue, DHCW advises contacting your local health board dental team. You can identify the correct health board based on your county of residence or the address of your GP practice.
