It offers clear advice on how to manage common illnesses and issues that children often experience. It also explains signs to look out for, when medical help may be needed, and where to go for support.

Get urgent help if you are worried about your child

If your child is seriously unwell, has difficulty breathing, is unusually drowsy, floppy, has a fit, has blue or grey lips, or you are very worried, call 999.

What the guide covers

The booklet includes key information on common childhood illnesses, an overview of NHS and wider support services available locally, and essential information on more serious illnesses, including what to look out for and when to seek help.

It can help families avoid unnecessary and sometimes lengthy waits in the Emergency Unit when another service may be more appropriate.
