Support for Carers
At Tudor Gate Surgery, we recognise the invaluable role unpaid carers play in supporting family, friends and neighbours who may be ill, disabled, elderly, or have mental health or substance misuse needs.
Whether you are new to caring or have been supporting someone for some time, we are here to support you.
Who is a carer?
A carer is anyone who provides unpaid support to a relative, friend or neighbour who could not cope without their help.
This may be due to illness, disability, a mental health condition or substance misuse. You may not think of yourself as a carer, but if you look after someone who could not manage without your help, you are entitled to information, support and services.
Let us know you are a carer
It is important that we know if you are a carer so we can:
- Add you to our carers register
- Offer additional support with your own health needs
- Provide flexible appointment times where possible
- Refer you to specialist local support services

We work closely with local and national carer organisations to help you get the support you need.
Carers Trust South East Wales
Carers Trust provides dedicated support for unpaid carers across Monmouthshire, including:
- Information and advice
- Emotional support and wellbeing sessions
- Access to carers grants and financial help
- Training and respite services
National support from Carers Wales
Carers Wales is part of Carers UK and offers free online resources, workshops and advice to help you in your caring role.
They provide:
- Expert advice on carers’ rights and benefits
- Free online courses and wellbeing sessions
- A supportive community of other carers
- Downloadable guides and factsheets
CarerSmart discounts for carers
Carers registered with Carers Wales or Carers UK can access CarerSmart, a free club offering:
- Cashback and discounts on shopping
- Special holiday offers
- Legal advice
- Free will-writing services and more
Rights of unpaid carers
If you care for a family member or friend, please make yourself known because advice and support are available. Unpaid carers have rights.
