Measles is more than just a rash

Measles is a highly infectious viral illness. While it often starts with cold-like symptoms and a rash, it can lead to serious complications.

Possible complications of measles

  • Blindness
  • Hearing loss
  • Brain damage
  • Difficulty breathing

Measles can be very serious, especially for babies, young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.

Protect your child – get them vaccinated

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella. It is safe, effective and provides long-lasting protection.

In Wales, children are routinely offered:

  • First dose at 12–13 months
  • Second dose at 3 years 4 months

If your child has missed a dose, they can still catch up at any age.

Vaccination pop-up clinics

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is running community vaccination pop-up clinics to make it easier for families to get protected.
