Tudor Gate Surgery came into existence in 1985, when the practice moved from Tan House, now Pegasus Court, to the current premises.

The doctors at that time were Dr Alfred Bracchi, Dr John David Falkner, Dr Elizabeth Evans and Dr John Plumb.

Our history

  • 1985 Following the move to the present premises, Dr Peter Davies joined the practice.
  • 1989 Dr Robert Bracchi, Dr Alfred Bracchi’s son, joined the practice when Dr Falkner left.
  • 1995 Dr Alfred Bracchi retired and was replaced by Dr Monica Chidgey.
  • 2005 to 2006 Dr Plumb retired in 2005, followed by Dr Evans in 2006. Dr Sarah Neville and Dr Jenny Jones joined the practice in 2006 as their replacements.
  • 2011 to 2013 Dr Howell Simpkins joined the practice in December 2011, followed by Dr Tom Close in 2013.
  • 2017 Dr Jenny Jones left the practice in spring 2017. Around this period, Dr Davies and Dr Bracchi also retired after serving patients at Tudor Gate.
  • 2020 At the end of April 2020, Dr Monica Chidgey retired after 25 years at the practice, having supported the team through the significant practice refurbishment of 2017. Dr Shadi Abdel-Gadir and Dr Alisa Lloyd joined as partners in May 2020, having both previously been GP registrars at the practice.

Our wider team

The nursing team has expanded from the early days. We now have a team of four nurses and two Health Care Assistants.

We also opened a dispensary in the first few years after moving to the current premises.

We now work as an integrated team. Despite changes to our contract with the government reducing our out-of-hours commitment, we continue to work hard to provide effective services to our patients.

We also welcome fellow health professionals into the surgery. Community nurses, St David’s Foundation nurse, counsellors and the Long Term Conditions nurse visit the surgery regularly.
